Home Hemodialysis

We Empower Independence Through Home Hemodialysis

At Home Dialysis Centers, we believe in empowering our patients to manage their kidney health confidently and independently. Home Hemodialysis (HHD) offers the flexibility and comfort of receiving treatments in your own home, tailored to your lifestyle and schedule.

What is Home Hemodialysis?

Home Hemodialysis involves the same dialysis process as in-center treatments but is done in the comfort and privacy of your own home. After we make necessary technical modifications to your home and set up your equipment, you will receive comprehensive training from our expert team. We fully instruct our patients and, if applicable, their caregivers. You or your support team will be well-equipped to manage dialysis sessions independently. Follow-up visits to the free-standing clinic are scheduled on a monthly basis. Doing your dialysis at home allows you flexibility to work or engage in social activities. You can choose the dialysis days and times that best suit your lifestyle.

Your partner may be involved in your dialysis treatments, so be sure to discuss your wishes with your partner. Patients and their families can cope successfully if they are given personal support and thorough training.

Types of Home Hemodialysis

Conventional Home Hemodialysis

Typically performed three to four times a week, each session lasts for about 3 to 4 hours depending on the prescribed treatment. This schedule can be adjusted to fit personal needs and lifestyle preferences.

Daily Home Hemodialysis

Also known as more frequent dialysis, the additional treatments per week can help you feel better and have more stable health outcomes. Daily treatments are typically shorter, making it easier to integrate dialysis into your daily life. Most patients dialyze every other day but can go as often as daily, for example, for pregnant patients.

Nocturnal Home Hemodialysis

Conducted overnight while you sleep, nocturnal dialysis is a slower, longer treatment that mimics more closely the kidneys’ natural functions. This option offers significant lifestyle flexibility and health benefits. Patients usually do nocturnal dialysis every other night.

Support and Training

Our dedicated team at Home Dialysis Centers provides extensive training and ongoing support, ensuring that you and your caregiver are confident in managing hemodialysis at home.
