Discover Innovative Care with Home Peritoneal Dialysis

What is Home Peritoneal Dialysis?
Peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of your abdomen, called the peritoneum, as a natural filter to clear wastes and excess fluid from your blood. It involves the infusion of dialysis fluid into the abdomen through a permanently placed catheter. The fluid absorbs waste products from blood vessels in your abdominal lining and is then drained away.
Home Dialysis Centers’ goal is to preserve as much of your remaining kidney function as possible. This is achieved using a holistic approach incorporating diet, medication, exercise, and incremental peritoneal dialysis exchanges. Once your kidney function has declined to the point of requiring dialysis, peritoneal dialysis is a great introduction modality.
Types of Home Peritoneal Dialysis
Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)
Does not require a machine and can be done manually 1 to 5 times a day at home or any clean environment.
Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD)
Uses a machine called a cycler to perform the exchanges automatically, usually while you sleep.
Support and Training
- Personalized Training: Tailored instruction on how to perform PD safely and effectively, including care of the access point and proper technique for fluid exchanges.
- 24/7 Support: Our team is always available to help you manage any aspect of your PD treatment, offering peace of mind that you are not alone in your care journey.
Benefits of Home Peritoneal Dialysis
- Lifestyle Flexibility: PD can be performed at home, at work, or while traveling, providing significant flexibility in when and where you perform your dialysis.
- Gentler on the Body: Many patients find PD gentler than traditional hemodialysis because it is continuous, avoiding the ups and downs of blood toxin levels.
- Greater Independence: With PD, patients can manage their own treatment daily, which can enhance their sense of control and well-being.
- Preservation of Remaining Kidney Function: PD can help preserve residual kidney function longer than hemodialysis, which can contribute to better overall health.
Explore Customized Care Plans
Each PD treatment plan is customized to meet the specific needs of the patient, including the type of PD, the frequency of fluid exchanges, and the volume of dialysate used. Our medical director will discuss the best options for your customized treatment plan based on your lifestyle and clinical needs.
